10 Tips for Mastering iPad

Settings:
  • Wi-Fi- connecting to WebAuth or other networks
  • Notifications
  • Brightness and Wallpaper
  • Picture Frame
  • General >
    Passcode Lock
    • Passcode Denied… DELETE ALL!
If you're carrying around sensitive data, you can now enable a feature that'll erase all the data on the device if someone inputs the incorrect passcode 10 times. Navigate to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Erase Data.

  • iPad Cover Lock
Multitasking Gestures 3 finger slide across pages/apps and 5 finger close of application
    Keyboard:Separate the keyboard[Spotlight Search]
Accessibility >BEWARE of Triple click and Voice Over.
Zoom Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom. Enable tap twice with 3 finger scroll.
Black on White Settings>General>Accessibility >Black on White makes your screen look like it is glowing.
    Speak Auto Text Settings>General>Accessibility ON/OFF
  • Download the free iPad User's Guide: You may have noticed that your iPad didn't come with a big printed manual--that's not Apple's style. However, you can download the PDF version of the iPad User's Guide from Apple's Web site, or you can read it in iBooks if you have that installed (iBooks is available as a free download in the App Store). Make sure to download the manual for iOS 4.3.
  • Parental/Classroom restrictions: Tap Settings>General, and then hit the Restrictions on/off slider. Once in the restrictions center, tap Enable Restrictions and enter a 4-digit code you’ll remember.
Note: You’ll need this code to access these settings later, so write it down somewhere.
From there, simply slide each apps permissions slider to on or off as you see fit. For example, I wanted to disable Safari, YouTube and iTunes (which disables Ping, too).

  • App Management
Tap Settings>General>Usage and you’ll get a whole screen devoted to what’s installed on your iPad.

Simply tap an app for a rundown of how much space it takes up and a quick option to delete the app if you so desire.

Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Tap space bar twice for a period
  • Virtual keys: Hold .com key for other options: .net, org. edu etc.
  • CapsLock double tap Shift (turns blue)
  • Comma Swipe = apostrophe
  • Rather than tapping the".?123" key to get at the numbers, hold your finger down on it and then slide your finger to the key you need. When you release your finger, the iPad will product your character and automatically flip back to the original keyboard layout
  • Tap+Hold a key and drag from the character choices. (other languages)
  • Hold 0 for degree symbol
    Hypen> = Upside down?
  • To save battery life:
    • Turn on autolock. Settings>General>Autolock>select time
    • Turn off WiFi unless you are using it.
    • Turn of 3G when not using it. Settings>Data>
    • Turn off location services.
    • Adjust Brightness Settings>Brightness and Wallpaper or slide multitasking bar to the right.
    • Mail: Settings>Mail>Fetch New Data> PUSH>OFF. Manually will check for mail when you open

More Tips

What should I do if I want to delete some words input by mistake?
Don't worry! Shake your iPad 2 body, then a small frame will pop up to ensure whether you cancel the input. And if you want to redo the input operation, shake again.

Find My iPhone (or iPad)
Apple's Find My iPad works for all iCloud users. In Settings > iCloud, enter your Apple ID and then turn Find My iPad on near the bottom of the screen. Now if you lose your iPad, you can go to icloud.com or use Find My iPhone on another device to locate the iPad. If you have a Wi-Fi-only model, it will need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network for this to work

Add a Google Calendar
Want to add your Google Calendar to the iPad's Calendar app? No problem. In Settings open Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Add an account and tap on Other. Tap on Add CalDAV Account and enter your Google Account credentials (the Server is www.google.com). Exit the Settings app and tap on the Calendar app and all your events should appear. By default all calendars are displayed, but you can tap on the Calendars button to choose which ones are shown.
. Use AirPrint
Thanks to AirPrint you can print right from your iPad, provided you've got a compatible printer, of course. If you've got an AirPrint ready printer then you just choose Print from the Share menu for virtually any open document. AirPrint works with the new range of printers from HP, and you can use a Mac app called Printopia (www.ecamm.com) to print to any printer connected to a Mac.
